In a traditional factoring arrangement, a company actually sells its receivables to another company a factor at a discount. After the sale, the receivables balances are carried on the factor s balance sheet since title has passed. Because the factor then owns the receivables, it generally provides all the required credit, collection and accounting services necessary to collect the receivables, including assumption of the ultimate loss exposure from the client debtor. The important difference between factoring and asset-based lending is ownership. In factoring, the receivables are purchased and owned by the factor. In asset-based...

The Simple Magic Of Reading

Books make a complete man, said a man centuries ago. This holds true today as yesterday. Sadly, the young generation might have lost interest in reading books because more and more forms of entertainment compete for their attention. Movies enchant them, music and MTV grab their attention, and computer games challenge their skills. This is very disheartening, especially if we will take into consideration the vast amount of knowledge that we miss if we fail to read voraciously. Maybe we must only remind ourselves of the reasons why we must read. Knowing the right reason will motivate us enough to immediately grab that novel, newspaper, magazine, or pamphlet that we have been ignoring all along. We read to be informed. The primary reason why people usually start reading is that they want to be informed. They want to know more about life, human nature, people, civilization, issues, and society in general. We get to know what is happening around the world and...

Steaming A Bow Stave

There are very few nearly perfect bow staves. There are more nearly perfect bow staves and many many, more that would require the self- bowyer to accomplish something in order for them to be considered nearly perfect. The cost of the nearly perfect stave is higher and the cost of the stave that needs adjustment is lower because of the need for the bowyer to accomplish this additional work. And there are other times when the shape of the stave requires adjustment in order for the wood to meet the bowyer s vision. For instance the gull wing design of the Plains Indians of North America or a simple recurve. Nature seldom accommodates man so man adjusts nature. In this case man bends wood. He heats the wood and then bends it. Direct application of heat can damage the wood fibers and even lead to scorching or turning the wood into firewood. The preferred alternative is using steam. Early bowyers borrowed a technique for heat treatment from flintknappers. They...

Teach Your First Grader How To Spell

Our education begins from the day we re born. While we don t immediately plunge into school, we re constantly exposed to new things that help develop our minds. Academics are only part of our long journey to knowledge. By the time we enter kindergarten, we are ready to begin the reading and writing aspects, but at a slow and steady pace. Too much too soon can overwhelm and confuse us. When we hit 1st grade, we are more prepared to tackle the nitty gritty. I recall my 1st grade spelling, reading and mathematics, and how they introduced me to a whole new world. When my daughter was born, I certainly wasn t thinking about school yet. The formula and diapers kept me pretty preoccupied. Now that she s seven years old, and in the first grade, academics are a major concern. One thing I noticed right away is that 1st grade spelling and mathematics are slightly different than they used to be. Now this is a good thing. Schools are constantly pushing our children to...

Dangerous Children In A Dangerous World

Juvenile violent crime rates increased 62 from 1988 to 1993, and then declined by just 6 from 1993 through 1997, according to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention OJJDP . However, the rates for juvenile drug and curfew violations, sex offenses, and simple assaults have continued to increase. The greater the number of risk factors and the fewer the resiliency factors the greater the risk that a youth will commit a violent act. To prevent dangerousness in youth, we need to understand the sources of the problem and intervene appropriately. Youth with histories of aggression often have families that abuse or neglect them, expose them to domestic violence, exhibit untreated psychiatric or substance abuse problems, or are uninvolved in their children s lives. According to OJJDP, children with more than five risk community, family, individual, school, and peer and fewer than six protective factors have an 80 chance of committing future...

Rarely do we ever see someone get out of their car and check their tire pressure or place their hands on the tire and feel for problems with their tire condition. What most people don t know is that proper tire pressure will improve your gas mileage, make your brakes and suspension system last longer, and it will improve your gas mileage. It will also make you safer.
